In November our class did the "Monster in the Closet" project. The students pretend to be an author writing a book about the Monster in the closet. They wrote the description of the monster as the child opened the closet door. Next, they illustrated their writing. Mrs. Minor's class did the same assignment.
Our classes then switch writing but not the illustration. The students then became an illustrator. Using the author writing, they had to interpret what the author was description and then draw the monster.
The class got together in the media center and read the description and compared the author and the illustrator's drawing. It was amazing how close some of the illustrations were. The classes realized that the author must used descriptive words for the reader to see the what the author is visualizing.

We also had a "Tacky Turkey" contest before we left for Rock Eagle. These were the best turkeys I have received for this project. It was hard to pick a winner. The winners are below with their turkeys.
